Boruto 79 Revealed – The Big Question Answered
Apparently, Eida used her full power to cause Kawaki and Boruto to switch places. Her power is called Omnipotence and it can warp people’s memories but also change physical evidence. Only the Otsutski and Sarada were unaffected.
This is a dangerous situation for the new gen because if they find out that this is true, Momoshiki would endager them and possibly even kill them.
What will happen to Boruto?
What I think happens is that Boruto will have a grief state or depression and his mind will be weakened so Momoshiki will take over his body. Momoshiki will go to Konoha and start hunting down people. Sasuke will arrive and try to stop him but he will fail because Momoshiki has a cyborg enhancement that allows him to hear vocal commands so it’s hard for them to communicate.
I also think that all of Kawaki’s physical traces have been removed from Boruto, so he doesn’t look anything like Naruto, Hinata, or Himawari anymore. So it’s easy to see why everyone will believe he killed them all. I believe that Eida’s genjutsu was much more powerful than we thought, because it didn’t just swap memories. It rewrote reality itself. That’s what makes this arc so confusing. I don’t know how he will make it past this.
What will happen to Kawaki?
This is the big question after last week’s chapter. It appears that Eida used her full powers to rewrite history and swap people around. Unlike Kotoamatsukami-like genjutsu that merely alters memories, this was an Omnipotence-like ability used by Gods to create worlds. This is why it was so powerful. It also means that Kawaki’s memories were changed and he now looks like Boruto but doesn’t have his scar or use the Rasengan. The X-factor in this is Himawari who could be immune or able to see through it with her Sharingan.
It’s likely Shikamaru and Amado will come in and make a deal with Kawaki for 3 reasons. 1st Reason: They need his karma to defeat Momo and keep Konoha as their ally. 2nd Reason: They need his help to get Akebi back. 3rd Reason: He’s an insider and isn’t as dangerous as the outsiders. He’ll probably agree to this and leave the village. Eida will be gunning for him down the line though.
What will happen to Sarada?
I think Boruto might not reverse Eida’s spell to the planet specially after he’s lived all these years as “the outsider” and gained so much respect for himself as the heroic “Naruto’s biological son”. He might just want to live the life he earned especially after Kawaki pinned so many atrocities on him.
Momoshiki said that omnipotence is an ability used by Gods to create worlds, so it is quite possible that reality got rewritten along with the memories. This is why Sarada and a few other Otsutski were unaffected by Eida’s power.
It would also make sense for Himawari to be unaffected as well. She sees Kawaki as a brother and she wouldn’t condone killing him just like she wouldn’t kill Boruto in the same situation. She should be a good support for him in battle and emotionally. She also needs a lot of experience and development to become Hokage, just like Naruto and Sasuke.
What will happen to Sasuke?
I feel like there is a big plot hole that the authors wrote themselves into with this one. Kawaki has been a vessel for Isshiki and was already karma’d by Momoshiki when the cast first met him.
It seems to me that he would have been much more difficult to accept Kawaki as a vessel if the cast had known this information. It would have been very difficult emotionally for them to fight him as well.
However, Sasuke doesn’t have the same emotional ties to this world as them. Having his Sharingan, he can easily read the memories of others, even alter/erase them if needed.
He could use this power to rewrite the past so that Kawaki is not the enemy of Konoha and he can be a good ninja again. He would have to be the only one unaffected by Eida’s new genjutsu for this to work though. I doubt it will. But, let’s see.
